Assault cases in Wa up – Police

policeIncreased cases of assault and failure of parents to provide for their children has been registered in the Wa Municipality in the second quarter of 2013.

Fifteen assault cases were recorded while seven cases were reported for the failure of parents to provide for their children within the period as against the eight and two cases respectively recorded in the first quarter of the year.

Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP Benjamin Mensah, Regional Coordinator of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), made this known to the Ghana News Agency on Tuesday in Wa.

He said a total of 38 cases were recorded in the Municipality during the second quarter as against 34 cases that were recorded in the first quarter with rape, defilement and stealing cases on the decline.

Abduction of female children of less than 16 years of age was higher with six cases in the first quarter but went down to two cases in the second quarter.

ASP Mensah said nine cases were sent to court of which one person was convicted, eight others are awaiting trial while 29 cases are still under investigations.

He called on the general public to support the Police to help reduce crime in the Municipality for all to enjoy the prevailing peace.
