Four armed robbers arrested in Koforidua

Ghana PoliceThe Eastern Regional Police Command on Wednesday arrested four suspected armed robbers at Akwadum, near Koforidua, following a tip-off.

Deputy Eastern Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), James Azumah Abass-Abaah, told newsmen that the suspects were arrested in an uncompleted building.

He named the suspects as Benjamin Frempong, 22, the ring leader, Kweku Frempong, 20, Kwesi Isaac, 19, Ben Danjuma, 21, and a 15- year- old boy.

ACP Abass-Abaah said police preliminary investigation revealed that Frempong was a member of a robbery gang as Ashaiman but broke away and formed his own group.

He said the robbers had been breaking into shops and homes.

Some of the items found on them were locally manufactured shot guns, two cutlasses, three multi- TV decoders, assorted glasses and other personal effects.

ACP Abass-Abaah said the robbers would be put before Court after police investigation.

He expressed his appreciation to the informants and appealed to the public to help the police to fight crime.

He asked victims of the robbers to report at the regional Police Head Quarters in Koforidua or the Municipal Head Quarters to identify them to facilitate prosecution.
