US medical team ends visit to Akatsi-North

stethoscopeA nine-member medical team from Temple University Medical school in the US has concluded a five-day outreach programme in the Akatsi-North District.

Led by Alvin Wang, an Assistant Professor of the School, the group provided free screening and treatment to about 700 residents of Avevi, Agormor and Ave-Dakpa and surrounding areas.

The group also presented a gift package of drugs and other medical items to the Ave-Dakpa Health Centre at the end of the visit.

Mr James Gunu, Akatsi-North District Chief Executive (DCE), at the presentation ceremony, expressed appreciation for the care and support to the beneficiaries and urged the team to return to the district on their next visit to the country.

Miss Patience Doe, District Health Director said the visit brought care closer to the beneficiaries, who harboured ailments but were not willing to seek help away from the area at the expense family activities.

Dr Wang, presenting the items, which included gloves, electronic thermometers and laceration trays, said each student on the team paid $2,000 to come to Ghana.

He said the medical supplies also cost 2,000 US dollar.

Dr Wang said conditions treated included high blood pressure, malaria, pneumonia, eye infections including a cyst removed from an eye of a patient, skin infections and abdominal pains.
