Machine at Aboadze Thermal Plant explodes

A circuit-breaker-pole, a machine that enables the generators at the Aboadze Thermal Plant, to dispatch electricity power through    transmission lines, exploded and  caught fire at 0804 hours this morning.

The Director of Thermal Generation at the Aboadze Thermal Plant, Mr Richard Badger, confirmed the incident to the Ghana News Agency on Friday.

He said as a result of the incident the thermal plant would not be able to supply 90 mega watts of power to their clients for distribution.

Mr Bagger said there the Fire Service Unit at the Plant responded promptly to the explosion and the fire did not spread to the rest of the machines.

He said the explosion resulted in high voltage flash, which affected the eyes of a worker at the Plant, who was sent to the hospital.

Mr. Badger said the cause of the fire is not known, but he indicated that the oil and gas in the circuit-breaker-pole was under pressure, and could have resulted in the explosion.

He said engineers would spend two days to replace the faulty machine and asked the public to bear with them.
