Ghana to initiate programme to support old students

Azongo Development Planning Consult, has launched the Old Student Profile Television Programme, to mobilise funds for educational development in the country.

The initiative is to promote national unity, support educational projects and facilitate networking and school mentorship programmes.

Mr Nyaaba Aweeba Azongo, Chief Executive Officer of the Consult said the Programme is a weekly 30 minutes TV programme, which would profile selected successful old student personalities across all spheres of leadership for interview.

They would also engage in a healthy contest to determine the old student Association of the month.

Mr Azongo said the programme would choose four old students as candidates, representing four schools of similar status on monthly basis for the contest through profiling on weekly basis on TV3 Network.

There will also be a text voting to a short code 1947 to all mobile networks and the result will be used to determine the old school or students association of the month.

“There will be a “champion of champions” competition at the end of the year for monthly old student winners. The programme’s unique selling point is its ability to merge youth and adult solidarity in one concept that excites both youth and adult interest in an all inclusive societal enterprise,” he said.

He said key institutions like the Ministry of Education, civil society organisations and corporate partners would be represented in the programme.

Mr Azongo appealed to other stakeholders to offer the necessary support to the programme.

Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Deputy Minister of Education expressed gratitude to the organisers and said he hope the programme would create the platform for old students to give back to their schools.

“The programme would inspire the youth, assist management, school culture and memories of students,” he said.
