Illegal miner jailed for theft

prisonAn illegal miner, arrested for breaking into the room of a couple, has been sentenced to 12 months in prison by the Bibiani Magistrate Court presided over by Mr Osei Kofi Amoako.

Kwame Owusu pleaded guilty to charges of causing unlawful damage, unlawful entry and stealing.

Police Chief Inspector Michael Agbaglo told the court that the crime was committed on June 23, at Mframandwo near Subri-Nkwanta in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai District.

The complainant, Ishmael Gyem, had left the house together with wife at about 2000 hours for a wake, when Owusu took advantage of their absence to break into their room and make away with some of their personal belongings and valuables.

The couple returned later to detect the theft and investigations led to the arrest of the convict.

He confessed to the crime in his caution statement.
