Green Climate Fund names AfDB’s Hela Cheikhrouhou as new boss

The Green Climate Fund based in Korea on June 26, 2013 announced the appointment of Hela Cheikhrouhou as its new Executive Director.

Ms. Cheikhrouhou, a Tunisian national, currently heads the Energy and Climate Change department of the African Development Bank (AfDB).

She is credited with success in scaling up the Bank’s green growth and climate resilient investments through an innovative blend of public and private finance.

In a statement, GCF said the Executive Director will lead the Secretariat of the Fund, headquartered in Songdo, Incheon City, Republic of Korea.

The GCF is the leading funding facility for climate change actions in developing countries.

It was set up to help limit or reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and to adapt to the unavoidable impacts of climate change in developing nations.
