Ghana’s Cabinet approves merger of two state-owned water companies

water-2Cabinet has approved the merger of Ghana Water Company Limited and Ghana Urban Water Limited to now perform as a single entity in the coming years, Mr Mahama Ayariga, Minister for Information and Media Relations has announced.

Cabinet has also proposed that the two companies to enter into internal performance agreements that would empower them to deliver on their mandate.

Mr Ayariga announced this during the daily media briefings at the Flagstaff House, Kanda on Friday.

He said under the current arrangements, regional offices of the Ghana Water Company Limited would now be turned into Departments that would also sign performance agreements to provide quality service to the people.

The Minister said the formation of the new management would be brainstormed among the companies to decide on the appropriate leadership that would propel the new entity.

He said other consultations were also being carried out to ensure that the companies performed better in future.

He gave the assurance that further discussions would be communicated to the public for their inputs.
