Volta Textiles secures ECOWAS protocol certificate

TextileVolta Star Textiles Limited (VSTL) at Juapong has procured an ECOWAS protocol certificate to sell its products in the sub-region under tariff exemption.

Consequently, the company has begun receiving orders from clients in the sub-region for commercial production of greybaft, Mr Evans Adzagbo, Acting Technical Director of the Company, said on Wednesday.

He was briefing Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo, Volta Regional Minister, and his Deputy, Mr Francis Komla Ganyaglo, when they paid a working visit to the factory.

Mr Adzagbo said a sister company, Tex Styles Ghana (TSG) in Cote d’ Ivoire, had placed an initial order of 600,000 yards of greybaft.

He said though the company was only operating at 30 per cent of its plant capacity, its strength was in its quality products.

“Quality is our strength. Despite our obsolete equipment, we are growing slowly and steadily,” Mr Adzagbo said.

He called for recapitalization of the company to enable it become very competitive and employ at full capacity 1,500 hands instead of its current workforce of 620.

Mr Adzagbo expressed the hope that the company would make much impact if it operated at 50 per cent of its plant capacity and called for government’s assistance.

Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo described the company as a strategic institution in the Volta Region, which could help reduce the unemployment situation in the country.

He assured that government would do its best to make it vibrant and beneficial to the country.

The team toured the facility.
