Social Welfare Department resolves 26 conflicts

The Nkoranza South Municipal Directorate of the Department of Social Welfare resolved conflicts in 26 broken homes and reconciled the couples last year.

In addition, it ensured that 107 children neglected by their fathers were properly maintained.

This was disclosed by Mr Douglas Musah Ibrahim, Nkoranza South Municipal Director of the Department, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Nkoranza.

He said child neglect was a major challenge that most women faced as some men shirked their responsibilities.

Mr Ibrahim said it was unfortunate that some men, who broke away from their wives, entrusted all the responsibilities in the upbringing of their children on the shoulders of the women.

He explained that such a situation could result in the children being on the streets and involved in social vices.

Mr Ibrahim expressed concern that some cases on child maintenance had to be solved in the courts and advised men with such negative mentality to refrain from such acts.

He commended the Government for allocating two per cent of the District Assemblies Common Fund to support Persons With Disability in the country to improve on their living standards.

Mr Ibrahim advised the leadership of the Society for the Physically Challenged to ensure transparency in the management and disbursement of the funds for their members to benefit.
