Togolese in court for attempting to smuggle Indian Hemp

law-and-justiceDaniel Tsugba, a Togolese, has appeared before an Aflao Circuit Court for attempting to smuggle large quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp to his country.

His plea was not taken and was remanded in police custody to reappear on June 28.

Tsugba who was about to cross the Lome-Togo border with the leaves was picked up by a police patrol team.

Mr Stephen Wuni, a Detective Police Inspector at Aflao told the Court presided over by Mr Yaw Owuahene Acheampong that around 2000 hours on June 12, the police team on patrol duties along the border was hinted that Tsugba, a Mason from Kpalimein Togo was at Akporkploe, a border community about to enter Lome with the leaves.

He said the police searched and found Tsugba in his hideout with 81 compressed parcels of leaves and arrested him.

Mr Wuni said the leaves had been sent to the Police Forensic Laboratory in Accra for verification.
