Government’s revenue taskforce recovers GH¢60,000 in two weeks

cediGovernment has so far recovered about GH¢60,000 through the operations of a Special Revenue Taskforce constituted two weeks ago, Mr Felix Kwakye-Ofosu, a Deputy Minister of Information and Media Relations said on Monday.

He said heads of 30 companies engaged in under invoicing had also been arrested and compelled to pay the right taxes and penalties, while investigations are still on-going.

Mr Kwakye-Ofosu, who announced this during the daily media briefings at the Flagstaff House in Accra, said a number of government officials and individuals have been picked up for investigations.

A couple of weeks ago, President John Dramani Mahama inaugurated the Taskforce to work undercover to unravel some of the leakages and loopholes in revenue generating organisations.

The Deputy Minister said the amount was retrieved from only one out of the many routes that have been placed under surveillance by the Taskforce and gave the assurance that government would soon mention the names of the companies and individuals involved in the malpractices.

He said a number of vehicles that were carrying under invoiced goods have also been intercepted while rigorous measures by the Taskforce and the security agencies have been put in place to investigate underhand activities on the major roads.

Mr Kwakye-Ofosu called on the public to cooperate with the Taskforce by volunteering useful information that could assist members to execute their duties professionally.

“We shall continue to pursue all the necessary steps that will bring up revenue for government and to eliminate all financial malpractices in the country,” the Deputy Minister assured.
