Mampong Municipal Assembly loses GHC143,000 to contractors

cediThe Asante Mampong Municipal Assembly, lost more than GHȼ143,000.00 to a number of contractors for no work done in the third quarter of 2012.

Mr David Ofori, Municipal Engineer, was cited in an Internal Audit Report to have “unscrupulously suppressed” GHȼ4,950 and causing financial loss worth GHȼ1,000.

The report made available to Ghana News Agency said Uphills, internet service provider engaged to provide internet facilities “has not been up to the task and dereliction of duty” causing the assembly “paying GHȼ75,000 for services not enjoyed…”

It said Uphills delivered inefficient internet service to the assembly, adding, “for nine months the internet connection of the assembly broke down…from January to September 2012”.

Deficiency in the procurement process compelled the assembly to lose 20 personal computers at a cost of GHȼ50,000.

The report therefore recommended that the assembly should take action to recover the money.

It said two contractors “fraudulently defrauded the assembly of GHȼ18,066 by false pretence by…making request for payment and actually received payments for no goods supplied and service rendered”.

Multi dimension limited was expected to supply 145 electricity poles on December 14, 2012 at the cost of GHȼ10,701 while “Jek and Will Company Limited” was to supply containers on December 14, 2012 at the cost GHȼ7,365.

The report recommended the immediate recovery of the various sums, termination of the contracts and barring them from getting contracts from the assembly for five years.
