School feeding programme Boss receives child rights award

Mrs. Ophelia Antwi-Boasiako, Ashanti Regional Coordinator of the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP), was on Thursday presented with a prize award for working tirelessly to promote child rights.

She received a Trophy and Citation from the Child Rights International (CRI) and Africa Media Consult.

The Citation eulogized her for dedication and tremendous contribution to the formation of child rights clubs in various basic and senior high schools in the region.

This it said, has significantly helped to enhance the welfare of pupils and students and made them conscious of their rights, responsibilities and role in the nation’s development.

“We recognize your efforts and desire to shape the lives of the youth for the better, especially in these challenging moments when most of our young ones had lost focus and their dreams shattered due to internal and external factors”, the Citation read.

Nana Michael Ampong, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Consult, said children represent the hope of every society and therefore their upbringing and total wellbeing must be a matter of concern to all.

He called for strengthening of the child rights clubs to make them more relevant and assertive on issues bothering on their development.

Mr. Eric Opoku, the Regional Minister, in a speech read for him, said the government would continue to implement policies and programmes to harness the potentials inherent in the youth.

He advised child rights clubs to be transparent in their activities and work hard to attract more members.

Mrs. Antwi-Boasiako said she was humbled by the honour and that this could only motivate her to continue to fight for the rights of children.
