Ghana’s KNUST, UDS part of AfDB-UN university consortium to promote sustainable development in Africa

Ghana’s Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and the University for Development Studies have been selected to be part of a consortium of universities to drive the sustainability of Africa’s development.

This was after the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the United Nations University (UNU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to foster research and knowledge exchange on sustainable development in Africa.

Dr. Donald Kaberuka, the AfDB President and Prof. David Malone, Rector of the UNU signed the pact in Japan after the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD V).

The other universities that are part of the consortium are the United Nations University, Institute for Sustainability and Peace (UNU-ISP) in Japan; University of Tokyo, Graduate Programme in Sustainability Science Graduate School of Frontier Sciences (GPSS-GLI) in Japan; and Kenyatta University and University of Nairobi in Kenya.

The rest are University of Ibadan in Nigeria, University of Cape Town in South Africa and the  University of Zambia.

According to the AfDB, the partnership aims to strengthen collaboration between Japan and African countries to strengthen Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) in Africa. The two institutions are working together to promote knowledge transfer through the consortium of universities.
