Kidnap suspects to re-appear in court on June 27

law-scalesAn Accra Circuit Court has adjourned to June 27, the case involving two soldiers and their accomplices for alleged kidnapping and robbery.

The accused include Lance Corporal Obeng Darko, a.k.a. Stylish and Lance Corporal Dasmani Faisal, both of 48 Engineer Training School and 48 Engineer Regiment respectively, Christopher Quainoo, a Private surveyor, and Isaac Larbi, unemployed.

The counsel for the accused persons prayed the court to grant them bail on the grounds that the facts does not support the offence leveled against his clients.

The court presided over by Mr Francis Obiri denied the application, indicating that the proper procedures and processes should be sought to by the counsel.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Tuaruka Duuti told the court, that the complainant is an employee of Global Access Bank, Lapaz branch.

He said for some time now, customers of the bank had been complaining that anytime they withdraw money and leave the bank, they get arrested by some soldiers and their accomplices and sent to an unknown place, where their monies are taken from them.

He said at about 12 noon on May 11, the accused persons came to the bank premises and on seeing the complainant coming out from the bank, they mistook him as a customer who had gone to withdraw money and detained him.

DSP Duuti said the complainant was then forced into a taxi and sent to Dzorwulu, where he was later left to his fate.

DSP Duuti said the complainant reported his ordeal to the police and on May 18 at about 12 noon, the accused persons were seen again hovering around the bank premises, and were arrested by the policemen on guard and handed over to the Tesano police.

The Prosecution said an identification parade was conducted where the complainant identified the accused persons as those who had kidnapped him.

He said another complainant, a student, told the police that at about 12 noon on January 17, he withdrew an amount of GH¢2,000 from the Mile 7 branch of Ecobank’ and boarded a taxi heading towards Dobro near Nsawam

DSP Duuti said the taxi conveying the student, on reaching Taifa junction, were crossed by another taxi cab, with L/ CPL Darko and L/CPL Faisal on board.

The prosecution said the soldiers took the complainant into a waiting taxi and sped off to an isolated area where they took from him an amount of GH¢1,780.00 and a Nokia mobile phone.

He said the accused persons also took an amount of GH¢1,900.00 from a driver, who resides in Medie.

During their caution statement, all the accused persons denied the offence.
