Eighteen candidates could not write BECE in Afigya-Kwabre

PupilsEighteen students who registered for this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Afigya-Kwabre District failed to show up at the examination centres.

Mr Ignatius Mwinbe Ere-Der, District Education Director, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that pregnancy and illness were the reasons given for the absence of some of them.

Others were also said to have dropped out of school just after registering for the examination or travelled outside the country.

Mr Ere-Der expressed discomfort with the development since it could mark the termination of their education careers.

He advised the candidates to resist any temptation to cheat or engage in other forms of malpractices that would lead to the cancellation of their results.

He said he was impressed by the smooth conduct of the examination and urged all to continue to comport themselves.

A total of 3,057 candidates, comprising 1,577 boys and 1,480 girls, are sitting for the BECE.
