USAID, Qatar Fund to build permanent houses for Haitians
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Qatar Fund for the Reconstruction of Haiti (Qatar Haiti Fund) have signed a partnership agreement for earthquake reconstruction efforts, including the building of permanent houses.
The Qatar Haiti Fund will provide $5 million to support the construction of 148 houses, a vocational school and a commercial area with shops and stalls, according to a joint statement issued June 6, 2013.
USAID is also to contribute $4 million to finance site preparation and construction management services for the project, which is being constructed on 5.55 hectares of land provided by the government of Haiti.
