Two Ivorians remanded for possessing counterfeit currency

prisonTwo Ivorians were on Wednesday remanded into prison custody for allegedly possessing and producing counterfeit currency.

The pleas of Nanfack Elvis and Yansane Kodjo Elvis were not taken and would re-appear on Wednesday, June 19.

Police Inspector Esther Gyebi, prosecuting, told a Sunyani Magistrate’s court, presided over by Mr Joseph Mensah, that the complainants were police officers stationed at the Sunyani Police Station.

She said on June 2, this year, the police had information that the accused were in possession of fake currency notes and proceeded to Pensioner’s Guest House where they were lodging and arrested them.

Inspector Gyebi said during a search, the police found fake currencies, quantities of papers cut in the shape of currency notes, some chemicals, sharp knives, cotton wool and some personal belongings.

She said they were sent to the police station together with the exhibits and during interrogation admitted the offence.
