Ghana Health Service to vaccinate children against poliomyelitis

VaccineThe Tarkwa branch of the Ghana Health Service will undertake a mass poliomyelitis vaccination campaign for children from 0-5 years in the Tarkwa Nsueam Municipality.

The campaign, which is scheduled for June 6-8 nationwide, is aimed at sustaining the gains made in the eradication of the disease.

The Municipal Disease Control Officer, Mr Ebenezer Tetteh, disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency.

Mr Tetteh said in addition to the immunization programme, children between the ages of six months and five years would be given Vitamin A Supplement.

He said the department had targeted to vaccinate 33,136 children across the 92 communities within the municipality.

Mr Tetteh said the department exceeded its target of 32,000 for the same programme last year and advised parents to make their wards available for the exercise and all other health programmes.
