CSO platform on SADA launched

farmerAn umbrella body dubbed “civil society organizations (CSO) platform on Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA)” has been launched to positively influence the strategy, programmes, projects and activities of SADA through evidence based advocacy.

Its aims were among others, to work with a view to making SADA’s interventions relevant to the development needs of the northern ecological zone in a focused manner through constructive engagement with key stakeholders.

The CSOs platform on SADA, which is currently hosted by the Northern Ghana Network for Development (NGND), is a facilitating and coordinating mechanism for CSOs to constructively engage with SADA as partners in development to enable it to deliver on its mandate in the quest for equitable national development.

Its membership is open to non-governmental organizations, community based organizations, farmer based organizations and individuals with an active interest in SADA, especially those in the northern savannah ecological zone.

Mr Abdallah Kassim, Executive Committee Chairman of NGND, who launched the platform in Tamale on Wednesday, said it would monitor the implementation of the SADA strategic framework constantly and suggest pertinent changes to maintain its relevance and effectiveness in achieving the expected outcomes.

The current government conceptualized and developed the SADA initiative, which formally began operations in 2011 to facilitate, coordinate and catalyse regional interventions with its statutory authority and political influence to bridge the development gap between the north and the south.

Mr Kassim said the CSOs platform on SADA “Will keep alight the quest to maintain the political will and sustain national awareness of the need for fairness in closing the development gap between the north and the south.”

Dr Emmanuel Abeere-inga, Director of Integrated Development Programme of SADA expressed gratitude for the launch of the platform, saying that, its objectives were in line with SADA’s strategic vision to constantly engage with stakeholders to ensure transparency in the implementation of its interventions.

Dr Abeere-inga gave the assurance that SADA would be forthcoming with relevant information on its interventions to inform the activities of its stakeholders.
