Newmont to build GH¢2m landfill site at Abirem

waste-2The Newmont Akyem Gold Mining Project, has awarded a contract for the construction of a modern landfill site near old Abirem, in the Birim North District Assembly, to improve on sanitation.

The GH¢2 million project, which is expected to be completed within six months, formed part of the company’s corporate social responsibility.

The Project Director of the Newmont Akyem Project, Mr Kim Hackney, made these known at a ground breaking ceremony at Abirem.

Mr Hackney said Newmont decided to get involved in the construction of the landfill site to support the Birim North District Assembly to effectively manage waste, to improve upon sanitation in the area.

He called on the District Assembly and other stakeholders to own the project to ensure its effective management.

Mr Godwin Annang, Director of KE&T consult, said geophysical, engineering and other feasibility studies had been done on the 16 acre land.

Ms Mavis Ama Frimpong, Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, commended Newmont Akyem Project for contributing to the development of the area.

    INSTEAD OF LANDFILL BUILD RECYCLING PROCESSING PLANTS JUST LIKE THE CHINESE, KOREANS, CANADA, NORWAY THE LEADER IN RECYCLING BUSINESS WITHOUT BURING THESE GOOD RECYCLING PRODUCTS , THE ONLY ISSUE IS GHANAIANS FILTHES WITH OTHER TRASH. BUT RECYCLING MATERIALS CAN BE REUSE TO GENERATE ENERGY, PRODUCE OTHER GOOD PRODUCTS.
