ALSF’s first $400,000 assistance to Gambia’s Banjul Power Project
The African Legal Support Facility (ALSF) has signed a $400,000 agreement with The Gambia to provide legal assistance in the negotiations of independent power projects and transmission as well as distribution upgrades in the Greater Banjul area.
This is the first time the ALSF is assisting The Gambia since its establishment in 2008 by the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group, a press release issued on May 29, 2013 has said.
The project falls within the ALSF’s mission to provide technical legal assistance to strengthen countries’ legal and negotiation capacities in matters pertaining to infrastructure, natural resources and investment agreements.
The release noted that, the African Legal Support Facility, hosted by the AfDB, has been assisting African governments in the negotiation of complex commercial transactions since 2010. The Facility was established to address the asymmetric negotiating capacity of African governments when dealing with international investors.
The Facility’s goal is to ensure fair and balanced negotiations, the release added.
