Chiefs call for external investigation into MASLOC case

Three paramount chiefs in South Dayi District on Tuesday called for an external investigation into alleged financial transaction bothering on conflict of interest against Mrs Bertha Sogah.

Mrs Sogah was a former Chief Executive Officer of Micro and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC).

A media statement signed by Torgbui Adza Wiah Kwesi II, Acting Fiaga of Kpalime, Torgbui Asuo Kwesi V, Fiaga of Tongor and Torgbui Aku Dompeh XI, Fiaga of Kpeve , and made available to the Ghana News Agency  said only an external investigation would ensure “equity and fair hearing” of the case.

The statement said as traditional areas, they do not have the interest to go into the merits or demerits of the case but are not comfortable with the current internal investigation going on.

It said the traditional areas do not want any of its citizens to be “crucified on the altar of political expediency,” which could result in the victims’ reputation being destroyed and called for “absolute fairness”.

The statement said in the event that Mrs Sogah is found not culpable, she should be reinstated at the same speed she was asked to proceed on leave and when found culpable, she should be made to face the full rigours of the law.

Mrs Sogah was asked by the Board of Directors to proceed on leave in April for investigations regarding certain allegations of conflict of interest levelled against her.

It was claimed that she acted improperly in dealings with companies such as Amisgold Microfinance Service Limited, alleged to be owned by her husband.
