African Development Bank begins 2013 Annual Meetings

African Development BankThe 2013 Annual Meetings of the African Development Bank Group will begin today May 27, 2013 in Moroccan city, Marrakech.

Key decisions about the Bank Group are made at these meetings.

Themed “Africa’s Structural Transformation,” the Meetings will review AfDB’s operations for the year 2012 and its 2013 development funding portfolio.

Delegates at the Meetings will also discuss challenges facing the African continent in key areas such as climate change, infrastructure, private sector and governance.

Over 2,500 delegates are attending the Meetings. They  include Finance Ministers, Central Bank Governors and CEOs from the AfDB’s 78 member countries.

Delegates representing other multilateral finance institutions, development agencies, private sector chief executives, non-governmental and civil society organisations as well as the media are also attending the Meetings.

First Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Mr Milson Narh and a delegation from the Finance Ministry have already arrived for the Meetings. Finance Minister Seth Terpker is also expected to join the Ghana delegation later.

Starting from today May 27, there will be a series of high-level seminars and other side events on the continent’s economic, social and political situations, and how they can be leveraged to accelerate the continent’s transformation.

The Meetings end May 31, 2013.

This the second time Morocco is hosting the Bank’s Annual Meetings. The first was held in 1974, in Rabat.
