MMDCE not appointment for party members alone – Chief

The President of the Central Regional House of Chiefs, Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi VII has expressed concern about constant agitation from different quarters about the appointment of Metropolitan, Municipality, District Chief Executive (MMDCE) to their areas.
Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi, who is also the Paramount Chief of Abeadze Traditional Area, said the agitation were becoming too many in the country adding that the MMDCEs were not appointed for the ruling party alone but the whole district or municipality.

He said the party members had no right to take the whole municipality or district to ransom hence they should be ignored.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview the Paramount Chief, who is a former Member of the Council of State, said though chiefs were debarred from participating in partisan politics that did not mean they were not interested in the affairs of the society.

“Party members have no right to reject Chief Executives without the approval of chiefs because chiefs are the partners of the Chief Executive in development,” he said.

Referring to an incident where some self seeking party members were calling for the rejection of the hard working Mr Kweku Hayfron as the Municipality Chief Executive, Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi appealed to the President to treat such calls with the contempt it deserves.

He said for the four years that Mr Hayfron has been appointed as the Municipality Chief Executive for Mfantseman, the Municipality has benefitted from an unprecedented development.

“The people of the Municipality have seen what the “Better Ghana Agenda” really means”, he said.

The Paramount Chief said the Municipality was made up of five paramountcies until last year when Ekumfi was taken away to form its own district and there have been no problems or complains from any quarters about the MCE.

He said in the tenure of the Mr Hayfron, development projects were fairly distributed to the various paramountcies and security has equally been excellent under his administration.

Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi said through hard work Mr Hayfron supported the MP Mr Aquinas Tawiah to retain the seat in the 2012 Parliamentary elections and this was the first occurrence in the fourth republic.

He said if Mr Hayfron was not reappointed to the Municipality it will reverse the clock of progress backwards.

In a related development, Nana Baa VII, Chief of Akyemfo Nankesedo and Nyimfahen of Nkusukum, has also appeal to President John Mahama to retain Mr Hayfron as the MCE for Mfantseman.

In an interview with GNA at Nankesedo, Nana Baa described the agitations against Mr Hayfron’s reappointment as most unfortunate.

He said what was worrying was that the people who were calling for the rejection of the MCE have nothing to say against him for which reason they did not him reappointed to Municipality.

“If the President want to listen to such agitations many good materials like Mr Hayfron would thrown away. Please reappoint him to continue with the good works has been doing for the Municipality”, he added.
