Ghana to hold Junior Athletics Championship in June

The Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) will organise a Junior Championship on Saturday, June 8 at the Essipong Stadium, Sekondi.

The one-day championship that will feature 137 athletes and 20 coaches from all ten regions of the country is to select a team for the African Junior Championships in Athletics scheduled for 27-30 June in Pretoria, South Africa.

Bawa Fuseini, General Secretary of the GAA told GNA Sports the GAA was targeting 20 athletes for the continental event subject to the qualifying time.

The athletics will compete in track and field events including 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 5000m, Shot Put, Discus, Triple Jump and High Jump.

According to the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA), the event is opened to athletes of at least 19-years.

Fuseini added that the selected will train for two-weeks in Accra before leaving for South Africa.
