Women entrepreneurs get IT training to boost business

ICT- 1The Vocational Training for Females (VTF), a Presbyterian non- governmental organisation, has organised a training workshop on Information Communication Technology (ICT) for 100 women entrepreneurs in Accra to enhance their businesses.

The participants who were drawn mostly from the rural communities included dressmakers, hairdressers, painters, sprayers and other artisans who had benefited from the VTF training to enable them have knowledge in basic computer skills to improve their business image.

The participants were members from the Network of Women Entrepreneurs and beneficiaries of one of VTF’s programmes- Entrepreneurship Skills Training, which aimed at upgrading the skills of members as a tool of empowerment.

The VTF is focused on enhancing opportunities for women through the promotion of Technical, Vocational and Educational Training and over the years had championed the needed support for beneficiaries leading to inclusion of some core subjects in vocational and technical training institutions.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Director of the VTF, Ms Lynda Agyei, said technology had become a driving force in every sustainable activity and it was important for every person to at least to have a basic knowledge in computer.

She said the VTF’s focus was on the empowerment of girls through skill training and job placement to reduce the incidence of unemployment among them.

Ms Agyei urged the beneficiaries to put what they had learnt to good use by using the internet frequently.

Topics treated at the workshop included introduction to computers, MS word, Windows and Internet appreciation.
