Hearts, Kotoko share honours in ‘El Classico’

footballAccra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko shared honours in the 24th week Glo Premier League game played at the Accra Sports Stadium, on Sunday with a one-all score line.

Hearts were the tactically superior side in the first half, with swift inter-positional play engineered by Obed Ansah and succeeded in scoring first in the 29th minute.

Winful Cobbinah weaved through the midfield, moved towards the vital area of Kotoko before delivering a grounder which keeper Soulama had no answer to.

The homers could have increased the tally in the later stages of the half, but indecision on the part of Ansah denied them another goal.

Hearts held on to the lead till the close of the first half, but the substitution of Ansah for Kofi Abanga at the start of the second half, saw them conceding the midfield to Kotoko, which changed the trend of the game.

Kotoko assumed dominance and ensured Hearts remained under constant pressure with Michael Helegbe and substitute Richard Mpong pushing for the equalizer.

It finally arrived in the 65th minute, when Tetteh Luggard failed to make a first time save of a corner kick. With Helegbe lurking in front of the goal line, he had no difficulty directing the ball into the net with a header.

The rest of the half saw action swinging from one side to the other, with both teams creating some decent scoring chances but failed to convert till the close of the game.
