USAID commended for providing educational infrastructure in Ghana
Dr George Adjei-Hinneh, Brong-Ahafo Regional Director of Education, has commended the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) for providing educational infrastructure in basic schools in the region.
He also commended Plan Ghana, a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) and collaborators of USAID for their support which had facilitated effective teaching and learning in the schools.
Dr Adjei-Hinneh commended the organisations at the inauguration of the 2013 Brong-Ahafo Regional Girls Camp on the USAID Junior High School (JHS) Education Project in Sunyani.
More than 200 students from selected basic schools in the various municipal and district assemblies in the region are participating in the one-week girls’ camp at the Notre Damme Senior High School at Fiapre in the Sunyani West District.
The students will be taken through soap and bead making and communication skills at this year’s camp which is on the theme: “Empowering Girls for Participatory Development”.
They will have the opportunity to interact with some personalities who have distinguished themselves academically and also embark on a tour to the Bui Dam in the Tain District of the Brong Ahafo Region.
Dr Adjei-Hinneh said the USAID JHS Education Project, since its introduction in the region in 2010, had helped in diverse ways to improving on education delivery.
He said the Bechem Model School had benefited from school block while the project was also constructing Information and Communication Technology (ICT) centres at the three USAID project implementing districts namely; Dormaa Municipal, Dormaa East and Tano South districts.
Dr Adjei-Hinneh said the NGO had also provided school materials such as uniforms, exercise books, mathematical sets and school bags to pupils and students.
He appealed to the USAID to extend the education project for another three years to benefit more students.
Mrs Pamela Young, Programme Director, USAID, told the students that with determination they could excel in all aspects of social lives and advised them to read their books at all times.
She pledged that USAID would continue to support them in the provision of educational materials to enable them to pass their exams well.
