Panfokrom Women Training Institute introduces technical courses

women-farmingThe Panfokrom Women Training Institute at Gomoa Panfokrom has introduced technical courses in addition to the existing vocational programmes to help admit males into the Institute.

Mrs Becky Ampa-Korsah, Principal of the Institute, who made this known to newsmen at Gomoa Panfokrom, mentioned some of the courses as Graphic Design, Plumbing, Building and Carpentry.

She said the introduction of the courses would offer male junior high school leavers and senior high school graduates the opportunity to acquire technical skills.

Mrs Ampa-Korsah said the move would help reduce the rural to urban drift of the Gomoa East District which has become a worry to the government.

The Principal said there was the need to balance the courses of the institute to enable boys to get the opportunity to learn technical skills.

Mrs Ampa-Korsah said the institute did research work before coming up with the selected courses.

She appealed to the Central Regional Minister to impress upon the Gomoa East District Assembly to fulfill promises made to the institute last year.

The promises include the construction of a modern assembly hall for the Institute.

She said presently the Institute used an old wooden structure as dining hall and classrooms.

Mrs Ampa-Korsah appealed to the Board of the National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) to expedite action on the releasing of certificates to the students of the Women Training Institute.

She said since 2008 NVTI had not released a single certificate to students who had completed their courses, adding that the delay had affected the students who wanted to enter polytechnics and other tertiary institutions.
