prisonA Takoradi circuit court on Thursday remanded Anthony Fynn, a 37-year refrigerator repairer (also known as Goro) and Kwame Boateng, a 28-year old farmer (alias Kwame Rasta), for alleged attempted armed robbery and conspiracy to commit crime.

The pleas of the accused persons were not taken and they are to re-appear on April 30 this year.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Fuseini Yakubu told the court presided over by Mr. Kwame Boakye that the complainants are Godwin Adzaklu and David Huo who are large scale miners and resident at Duale in the Nzema East Municipality.

He said around 1500 hours on March 3rd this year, one Efo, who is now at large told a boat driver that he was a member of a gang and that they (gang) had been informed that Huo and his personal assistant, Joe, would be crossing a river in the area with a large amount of money to their mining site at Duale.

Inspector Yakubu said Efo asked the boat driver to assist the gang to rob Huo and his assistant of the money and promised to give the boat driver his share when the plan succeeded.

He said Efo showed the boat driver a single barrel gun and two machetes’ for the operation at their hideout in a nearby bush and the two exchanged “contacts” for him (the boat driver) to alert Efo when Huo arrived at the riverside.

The prosecution said the boat driver informed a colleague about the plan for the robbery and later, the two of them informed Joe who in turn told Huo.

Inspector Yakubu said that Huo alerted the Police who accompanied them to the river side.

He said the boat driver alerted Efo when Huo arrived and after several hours, Goro emerged from the bush with a gun and fired shots but the Police fired back and apprehended him.

Inspector Yakubu said that a single barrel gun and an empty cartridge were retrieved from Goro.

He said upon interrogation Goro mentioned Kwame Boateng, who is a washer at Huo’s mining site, Efo and one Kofi as his accomplices.

Inspector Yakubu said Rasta was apprehended on March 4th but Efo and Kofi managed to escape.
