Female teachers urged to be active in union activities

Mr Gyimah Amonoo, Eastern Regional Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), has called on the leadership of the ladies wing of the Association to motivate female teachers to take active interest in trade union activities.

He reminded the leadership of the Ladies Wing (GNAT-LAS) that they had the responsibility to promote the interest of female teachers and help bring up issues that hindered their progress in the profession.

Mr Amonoo was speaking at the Fourth Quadrennial Conference of the West Akyem Municipal branch of the GNAT-LAS at Asamankese.

He advised female teachers to invest more in the Teachers Fund so that on retirement they could go home with substantial amount of money accrued from their investment.

Ms Emelia Ocran, Eastern Regional Treasurer of GNAT, called on the leadership of GNAT-LAS to make the Association more attractive to female teachers so as to take active part in its activities.

The conference elected Ms Bernice Baah as the West Akyem Municipal Coordinator of the Association, with Ms Vida Owusu as Secretary, and Ms Doris Okai as the Treasurer.
