Cleaner fined for stealing gold nuggets valued GH₵728,000

gold-barsA 43 year-old cleaner, Kwaku Atta, has been find GH₵480 by a Tarkwa circuit court for stealing nine pieces of gold nuggets valued at  GH₵727,977 belonging to Aboso Goldfields Limited (AGL), Damang mine.

He was convicted on his own plea.

Prosecuting, Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah, told the court, presided over by Mr Samuel Obeng Diawuo, that the complainant was the acting security superintendent of AGL while the accused was a staff working with SAS Company, a subsidiary company of AGL.

He said on March 3, this year, the accused worked at the mine plant during a shutdown period and when he closed from work and was undergoing a search at the security check point, the officer on duty found nine pieces of gold nuggets concealed in his safety boot.

Detective Amponsah said he was arrested with the exhibits and handed over to the Damang police.

He said when the exhibit was sent to the laboratory for analysis the report indicated that the gold nuggets weighted 8.19 grams valuing GH₵727,977 cedis.

The prosecutor said after investigation the accused person was charged with the offense.
