Jubilee Field to deliver gas to Aboadze by 2013 last quarter – GNGC
Natural gas from the Jubilee Fields for power generation will be delivered to the Volta River Authority (VRA) at Aboadze in the fourth quarter of this year, the Ghana Gas Company has said.
Work on the overall project design to process 150 million standard cubic feet of natural gas a day is about 75 per cent complete.
According to the main contractor, Sinopec, the remaining modules of the plant would arrive in the country by June this year.
Final installation of the plant will start in July, by which time all earthworks would have been completed.
This will be followed by the testing and inauguration of the facility for the delivery of the gas to the Volta River Authority (VRA) at Aboadze.
The 14 km deep water and 44km shallow water pipe-laying from the Jubilee Field to the project site have also been successfully completed and awaiting the completion of the site for the installation of the processing plant.
Currently, the onshore natural pipeline system stretching over 111km has been completed and its ends have been linked to the VRA facility.
The Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, said the government was committed to the project to ensure that gas was no longer a problem for firing the generating units.
He said the country’s current energy crisis was due to problems with the flow lines from Nigeria, therefore, it was important that the project was given the needed attention.
“Delivering the country’s own natural gas for firing the thermal units is very critical as the challenges we face today as a country are as a result of the inability of the gas from Nigeria to flow due to the damage,” he said.
He said the project was critical and must be delivered on schedule, saying “we have to deliver to the people of Ghana, meet demands and keep the wheels of industry and commerce in motion.”
Mr Buah added that “we at the ministry will not sit in our offices in Accra to watch on the sideline, we will fold our sleeves and engage in practical work to ensure that we deliver to the people of Ghana.”
He cautioned that as Ghana Gas worked to beat the deadline, issues of quality should not be compromised, saying “when the main contractor finishes and hands over the project to Ghana Gas, its engineers working with the contractors will fully be in control and make the country proud.”
Mr Victor Sunu-Attah of Ghana Gas, who took the minister and members of Parliament on a tour of the project, said the gas would be delivered on schedule.
