Experts to meet on breakbulk, project cargo and heavy-lift logistics challenges in Africa

Michael Lalor, Ernst & Young’s Director of Strategy and Innovation-Africa Business Center and Dinesh Kumar, Ph.D., Country Leader for Supply Chain and Procurement Services at KPMG South Africa, will lead several other industry experts to analyse breakbulk, project cargo and heavy-lift logistics challenges in Africa from April 15 to April 18, 2013.

Set for Cape Town, South Africa, Michael Lalor will outline sub-Saharan Africa’s development, investment trends and proposed capital projects as he delivers the first day’s keynote speech at the Breakbulk Africa Congress 2013.

Mr. Lalor’s responsibilities include the firm’s thought leadership initiatives on Africa as well as assisting a wide variety of companies in developing, stress-testing and executing their Africa growth strategies.

For his part, Dinesh Kumar will address South African transportation & supply chain trends, when he delivers the second day’s keynote speech at the congress.

A statement issued on behalf of the organisers, indicates that Mr. Kumar has already spent the past fifteen years advising transportation clients including Siemens, Mondi, Telkom, Botswana Development Corporation and others on how to optimise their supply chains.

Additional Day One Congress topics will include Port Developments in West Africa, Oil & Gas Development in East Africa, Supply Chain Security Risks in West Africa and Socially Responsible African Compliance, while additional topics to be discussed on the second day, will include Africa’s High Cost of Overland Transport, Moving Hazardous Cargo and
Dangerous Goods and a Project Cargo Case Study on the Cahora Bassa Power Station.

The Breakbulk Africa Congress 2013 will also comprise two educational courses – the advanced technical Heavy Lift Masterclass taught by Richard Krabbendam, 37-year industry veteran formerly of Jumbo Shipping and the entry-level Breakbulk Education Day for college students and industry freshmen.

The educational courses will take place April 15-16, 2013, while the Executive Congress & Networking will take place April 17-18, 2013 at the Southern Sun Cape Sun Hotel, Cape Town.

The Breakbulk Africa Congress is one of four annual breakbulk and project cargo transportation congresses organised in South Africa, Brazil, Turkey & India by Breakbulk Events, a division of UBM Global Trade.
