18-year old unemployed man caught with illegal firearm remanded

prisonAn 18-year old unemployed, Emmanuel Andzi Quainoo, caught with a locally-manufactured pistol and live cartridges, has been ordered to be held in police custody by a Kumasi Circuit Court.

He is facing a charge of possessing firearm without lawful authority and pleaded innocent.

The accused would re-appear on Friday, April 5.

Police Inspector Kwabena Oduro Boateng told the court presided over by Justice William Boampong that, Quainoo and three others now on the run were seen loitering behind a Cold Store at the Asafo Market at about 2330 hours on March 12, by some neighbours.

They became suspicious and confronted them, but the accused and his colleagues took to their heels.

They gave them a hot chase, caught up with Quainoo and arrested him. His other colleagues, however, managed to slip through.

The prosecution said a search conducted on him uncovered the locally-made pistol and three live cartridges.

He was subsequently handed over to the police together with the weapon and cartridges.
