Rainstorm kills four in Walewale, injures 41

A heavy rainstorm that blew across some parts of the Northern Region yesterday evening has left four persons dead in Walwale in the West Mamprusi District and injured 41 others.

Three persons out of the four who had been identified had been buried but the fourth person, whose identity is yet to be established, was still at the mosque of the Walewale Government Hospital. Some of the injured persons have also been treated and discharged.

Mr. Adam Yussif, the West Mamprusi District Chief Executive who spoke to the GNA, said the storm started yesterday at about 1700 hours and caused destruction in the district including three clusters of schools.

He said 612 persons have been displaced and are putting up with relatives.

Mr. Yussif said the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) was conducting assessment to establish the extent of damage and would extend assistance to the victims.

He appealed for support from benevolent organizations and that the Assembly had initiated an action plan to put the classrooms back to use.
