Some Hohoe teachers comply with GNAT strike

School under treeTeachers of some public schools in the Hohoe Municipality have laid down their tools as pupils and students in those educational institutions have been sent home.

This follows announcement by executives of the Ghana National Association of Teacher (GNAT) of a nationwide strike by members on grievances concerning their salaries.

Some teachers in the municipality, who pleaded  anonymity, told the GNA in Hohoe on Monday that they were complying with directives from GNAT executives, to lay down their tools.

Ms Doris Afari, headmistress of Hohoe E. P. Senior High School, could not confirm a strike action by staff, but said students were busily paying their fees after returning from mid-term holidays.

She said examinations for the first and second year students slated for that morning had been rescheduled for the afternoon.

At the Saint Francis College of Education, Mr David Agbenuvor, Principal, said all teachers have reported for work.

Meanwhile, schools at Emli Israel, Nyangbo, Logba, Golokwati and Wegbe, on the main Hohoe trunk road, remained closed.
