University of Ghana to emphasise on graduate training – Pro-Vice Chancellor

legonProf Kweku Osam, the Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, has said the Ghana’s premier university would be transformed into a research institution with more emphasis on graduate training.

He said this on Wednesday during the launch of the Ghana Social Development Outlook 2012 report by the Institute of Statistical Social and Economic Research (ISSER) of the University of Ghana.

He said, after 66 years of its establishment, there is the need for the University of Ghana to be transformed into a research institution with a direct bearing on national development.

He said the Ghana Accreditation Board recently published a document, which indicated that there are over 70 tertiary institutions awarding degrees in various disciplines.

“The University of Ghana therefore has to rethink of its strategic position to move a step further to become a research university with more emphasis on national development”, he said.

Prof Kweku Osam said ISSER is one of the flagship academic establishments of the University of Ghana and commended it for the launch of the Ghana Social Development Outlook 2012 report which covers critical areas like health, housing and governance.
