No funds for Oda Industrial Village – Group

cediCarpenters in the Birim South and Central Municipalities have appealed to government to expedite action on the construction of the Oda Industrial Village.

Mr. William Obeng Tuffour, President of the Birim Carpenters’ Association (BCA), told the Ghana News Agency on Wednesday that the carpenters have contacted the Birim Central Municipal Assembly on the matter but they were told that funds were not available for the project.

According to him, landlords were ejecting some members of the BCA for their inability to meet  high rent.

Mr Tuffour said: “We operate from different locations on rented land and we are often exposed to stringent rules and charges by the landlords who eject us and then rent it out to commercial banks”.

The GNA observed that some of the carpenters were operating along the roads, in kiosks and other unapproved locations.

The Industrial Village Project in addition to other projects, were funded by the Social Investment Fund.
