President John Dramani Mahama has joined leaders around the world to mourn the passing of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.
In a letter signed by the President and addressed to the Vice President of Venezuela, Nicholas Maduro, he said, ” I have learnt, with shock and sadness, the death of the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, President Hugo Chavéz, in Caracas yesterday March 5,2013. On behalf of the Government and People of Ghana and on my own behalf, I extend deep condolences to the Government and People of Venezuela, especially the bereaved family on this painful loss.”
He said the Late President Chavéz will be remembered for dedicating himself to building a new society in Venezuela through progressive social and economic changes that took millions of Venezuelans out of poverty.
Chavez was diagnosed and undergoing treatment for cancer.
