GNAT worries over delayed release of payslips

cediThe Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has expressed concern about the undue delay in the release of pay slips to members.

This, the Association said is causing inconvenience and apprehension among members.

The members therefore called on the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) to expedite action for the immediate release of the pay slips locked up since October last year.

Reverend Patrick Tuffour, Secretary of GNAT in the Asante Mampong Municipality who made this known to the Ghana News Agency in an interview on Sunday said the phenomenon create room for members to be cheated during financial transactions.

He said teachers need pay slips when they are investing in bonds or mutual funds and should be privy to the deductions to be made.

“Unfortunately, that is not the situation. Since October some teachers in the Mampong Municipality and others…across the country have not had an inkling of the exact amount disbursed from CAGD before cashing in, “he said.

Rev Tuffour said a pay slip is an important document, containing information and details about one’s salary which provides a well organised break-up of an employee’s salary adding “it is very useful in checking irregularities”.

A pay slip includes the breakup of one’s salary, which is highly beneficial in calculating the money earned by a person in a financial year, in calculating the tax amount to be paid and the insurance amount to be paid.

It is mandatory to produce and submit payslip while applying for a loan at a bank. It is a testimony of one’s authenticity for various banking formalities.

It is also a legal document highly essential while applying for a new job and serve as proof backing statement of how much salary, incentive or wage one is drawing from employment.
