Two persons arrested for child theft in Western Region

DeportedTwo persons, Abdulai Ibrahim and Kingsley Yankey are in police custody for allegedly stealing a two-year old boy.

The suspects stole Kwaw Yankey at a suburb of Kuakaville, near Axim in the Nzema East Municipality of the Western Region.

Sources at the Western Regional Police Crime Office confirmed the child theft to the Ghana News Agency in Sekondi on Thursday.

The police said the victim, Yankey, was playing with his siblings at the suburb of Kuakaville around 1500 hours on Saturday, February 23.

The police said all of a sudden, the two suspects appeared on the scene, snatched the boy and bolted with him.

The police said the eight-year old sister of the victim, Hannah Mensah, who was with him, screamed for help but nobody came to the scene.

She, therefore, went to the town and informed a resident, Napoleon Coleman, about the incident.

Coleman then mobilized some youth and pursued the suspects.

To their amazement, the stolen child was later found alone under a palm tree in the bush and was rescued.

The two suspects were later arrested by the town folks in their hide-out and handed them over to the police.
