Police arrests two over currency counterfeit

policeThe Western Regional Police Command have arrested two persons for allegedly possessing counterfeit cedi notes amounting to GH¢2,754.

The suspects, Samuel Agyei, alias Sakopra and Kwabena Assan have been remanded into police custody assisting police in their investigations.

Sources at the Western Regional Police Crime Office confirmed the arrest to the Ghana News Agency in Sekondi on Thursday.

The police said Agyei was arrested on Monday February 25 at Apimenim in the Ahanta West District while Assan was apprehended at the Ankobra Toll Booth in the Nzema East Municipality of the Western Region.

A search conducted by the police in their houses retrieved GHc2, 204 counterfeit notes from Agyei whilst GH¢550 were found on Assan in GH¢50, GH¢20, GH¢10, GH¢5 and GH¢2 Cedi denominations.
