Contractor jailed 6 years for fraud

prisonPaul Mensah, a 47-year-old building contractor, has been sentenced to six years imprisonment by the Tarkwa Circuit Court for defrauding by false pretense.

He was convicted on his own plea.

Police Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court, presided over by Mr Samuel Obeng Diawuo that the complainant’s son Francis Quist is serving a seven year jail term for defilement and thus wanted a lawyer who could assist in securing an early release for him.

He said somewhere in November, last year a friend, Mr Asante, introduced the accused to the complainant hoping that he could lead him to a lawyer to secure the early release his son.

Chief Inspector Amponsah said the accused demanded and collected an amount of 4,200 Ghana cedis but failed to honor his promise and went into hiding.

He said on Thursday February 19, the accused was spotted at Nsuta near Tarkwa and with the assistance of Mr Asante, he was arrested and handed over to the police.

Detective Amponsah said after investigation the accused was charged with the offense.
