Tema Metro to provide financial support for physically challenged persons

cediThe Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) would soon introduce a concept called “Star Entrepreneur” to offer adequate financial support to physically challenged persons within the Metropolis.
Mr Robert Kempes Papa Nii Ofosuware, Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, who made this disclosure in Tema on Thursday said by this concept the physically challenged would be enabled to create sustainable jobs to improve their standard of living.

Mr Ofosuware was opening a two-day workshop organised by the TMA branch of the Disability Fund Management Committee (DFMC) to create the necessary awareness of the Disability Fund among the physically challenged and how best they could access it for their mutual benefits.

The MCE pledged the Assembly’s determination to empower the physically challenged in the Metropolis by continuing to pay their medical bills, the cost of their hearing, sight and movement aids as well as their educational bills.

Mr Ofosuware was optimistic that the workshop would help disabuse the minds of the physically challenged of the misconception and wrong notion that they are deliberately denied access to the 0.5 per cent of the Common Fund, which they are legally entitled to.

Baba Abu Abdulai, a Management Consultant and Chairman of the DFMC, advised the physically challenged within the Metropolis to take the workshop seriously in order for them to be abreast with their privileges and rights in society.

Closing the workshop on Friday, Mr Romeo Akahoho, Presiding Member of the TMA advised physically challenged persons to be determined, self-confidence, committed and industrious in order to succeed in their endeavours.
