CAF Champions League: Kotoko thrashes Nguema 7-0

KotokoAsante Kotoko inflicted an emphatic 7-0 win over their Equatorial Guinean counterparts, Sony de ela Nguema, in their first round of the preliminary CAF Champions League encounter played at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, on Sunday.

Kotoko registered four of the goals in the first half, with Kofi Nti Boakye, Aziz Yusif Abdul, Michael Anaba and Michael Helegbe getting the goals in the 13th, 29th, 36th and 39th minutes, respectively.

In spite of this, Kotoko, should have recorded a cricket scoreline in the half having messed up numerous glorious opportunities with Nti Boakye and Michael Anaba being the worst offenders.

Nti Boakye, for instance, fumbled with the ball just in front of the post with Nguema’s goalkeeper, Felide Ovono Ovono, displaced while Anaba also missed in a similar fashion in the 41st minute to end the half.

Nguema missed their brightest opportunity in the 22nd minute in a goalmouth melee when  Emeterio Ekaa’s shot was saved by goalkeeper Isaac Amoako.

The visitors looking tired and frustrated allowed Kotoko to dictate the pace, ensuring speedster Richard Mpong increased the tally for Kotoko as he scored the fifth goal in the 69th minute from Anaba’s pass to send the teeming supporters into wild jubilation.

Nguema nearly scored a consolation in the 71st minute but a free-kick taken by Isouf Kananou was saved.

The Porcupine Warriors who did not show any sympathy for the visitors piled up pressure on Nguema, and scored two more goals through substitute Seidu Bancey and Ugandan import, Joseph Ochaya  in the 79th and 88th minutes respectively.
