Security Services launch games

SoldiersThe biennial Security Services Sports Association (SESSA) games for all security agencies in the country  was launched in Accra on Thursday.

This year’s event, which is the 13th edition, is on the theme “Promoting esprit de corps among Ghana’s security services through sports” would be hosted by the Ghana National Fire Service.

It is scheduled to begin on October 11 to 18.

Launching the event Brigadier General John Bosco Guyiri, Acting Chief Fire Officer, said over the years the event had served as a platform where institutional fraternization between members of all the security services was strengthened.

He said the SESSA games were important for security services to foster unity and solidarity among its personnel.

“Through unity we can achieve a lot as a nation, and when there is unity in institutions such as the security services, it will definitely add to the development of these dear nations of ours,” he said.

Brig-Gen Guyiri said the event had over the years served as a breeding ground for talents search in the various disciplines at the national level.

He said apart from football, personnel of the security services form the core of the various national teams such as volleyball, basketball, handball and hockey.

“We can attest to the fact that SESSA games has produced outstanding sportsmen and women for the country in the past years, one can talk of Azumah Nelson, Gifty Addy, Millicent Boadi and the others,” he said.

Brigadier General Guyiri called on all members to ensure that their teams were prepared adequately and well to make the games  highly competitive.
