Driver attempting to sell nephew jailed five years

prisonAn Accra Circuit Court on Tuesday sentenced Kwebena Mould, a driver, to five years jail term in hard labour for attempting to sell his nephew at the cost of GH¢ 30,000.00.

The court, presided over by Madam Sedina Agbemava, sentenced the convict on his own plea.

Kwebena Mould was accused of attempting to sell Master Gariba Masawudu, 17, his nephew on January 25, 2013.

Presenting the facts of the case to the court, Assistant Superintendent of Police Augustina Enti, said the police got the information that the accused was in the process of selling his nephew.

The prosecutor said the police got interested in the case and managed to get the phone number of the convict where one policeman pretended to be Alhaji Bamba, who wanted to buy the boy.

ASP Enti said after a lengthy bargaining with Alhaji Bamba the convict agreed to sell the boy for GH¢20,000.00.

Prosecution also told the court that the police managed to arrange with the convict to meet at a popular spot called JD, off the Mallam Kasoa road, where the transaction would take place.

She said the police managed to arrest the convict upon reaching the spot where the transaction was to take place.
